I have been absolutely loving all the family portrait sessions I've had lately! I don't get around to blogging most of them, because I'd rather take the time editing them all and turning them around to my clients quicker, but I am meaning to change that - otherwise how will anyone else ever get to see them? So I may be few on words over the next several blog posts, but I'll be showing more pictures! :)
So way back when I was a newbie to the Buffalo Wedding Photographer world, Sandra was one of my most loyal clients. We did so many portrait sessions together, and I got to know her daughter from before birth to being an adorable little girl. Then Sandra got busy. Super busy. Like, wonder-woman, mom and nursing school type of busy (for those of you who know someone who has been through nursing school, you know this means they have no time for anything). So I was beyond thrilled when Sandra contacted me to do some graduation and family portraits for her! She has worked harder than almost anyone I know to get where she is today, and I know I'm not speaking for just myself when I say I couldn't be more proud of her!
And how cool is it to have mom graduate from college the same year that her daughter graduates from kindergarten?!?
Buffalo in the spring is a questionable thing for family portraits. Weather is either beautiful, or rain, or sleet, and you never know what it's going to be until that day. I've rescheduled so many family photography portraits in the last couple months because of the unending rain, that I felt apprehensively excited for the day we did this families pictures. I held a "share and win" contest on facebook in April, and Rebecca, who says she never wins anything, was the lucky winner. I was thrilled, because once I heard a bit about her family, I couldn't imagine a family that deserved to win a photography portrait session more than they do!
Oh if only we were in the warm type of days where I could talk my maternity portrait clients into believing that laying in the creek while the sun goes down is a good idea. The heat in my office is currently working at less than optimal power, so while I type with fingers I can't feel, looking at these idyllic summer family portraits make me miss that weather oh so much more.
This little family is one of my favorites in the world. They have welcomed us into their lives and hearts as friends, and this little girl will always hold a place in my heart for the love and friendship she has shown Clara. I know this gorgeous momma wanted to show the free spirit of her family, and was fully willing to go to any lengths to capture these last precious moments before their family of three turned into a family of four.
I am so excited to offer these! I will be taking on a limited number of family sunset sessions this year. These sessions ALWAYS turn out amazing.
They are not your regular "everyone smile at the camera" portraits. These are the ones where you play with your kids, snuggle, tickle and have FUN. While I will get a few of all of you looking at the camera, I won't be asking you to hold a fake smile the whole session, or trying to keep your toddler sitting still. I want them to run in circles, dance, jump and be kids. These are FULL family sessions, not mini sessions.
They will be scheduled 1.5 hours before sunset, at a to-be-determined location (depending on the time of year, different places are better for perfect sunset portraits). They will take 60-90 minutes to complete, and you will end up with an amazing collection of portraits that shows your family in their best light.
I am also including a 16x20 print of your favorite image from the portrait session. I truly believe in families printing their photos, and want to make sure you get at least one professional quality photographic print with your family portrait session. Yes, you will also have an online gallery, and receive all the final edited images via download.... But I want you to have more than professional profile pictures. I want love on your walls.
I will be 100% involved and available for the planning, outfit picking, and advice giving leading up to your session. I will want to know what you are planning to wear, what your hopes are for the session, and location choices.
All the details:
Retainer: $150 (with the final amount due one week before your session)
Date: You pick! (Yes, we will reschedue depending on inclement weather)
Time: 90 minutes before sunset
Location: To be decided depending on the date
What you get: A specialized 60-90 minute sunset portrait session, all the final high resolution images, and online gallery to order from AND a 16x20 Print of your favorite portrait.
Please note: There are only a limited number of sunset sessions available. Once they have all been booked, I will not be offering any extras.
Sessions are available for Sunday, Monday or Tuesday evenings from May to September only.

I absolutely love lifestyle family photography. I love it when I get to capture families acting as real families, and not just pretending to smile together. I like real emotions, laughter, smiles and love. And I love that this beautiful family allows me to capture them at their most authentic moments.
