A bit of BSP News

It’s been more than a year since I’ve blogged. Sometime last year I hit a brick wall with everything I was doing - raising and homeschooling kids, mentoring photographers, weddings, families, maternity, boudoir, seniors, and every day life things. I burned out. So I cut down on what I could - blogging and social media being two of the main things that seemed to take a lot of time but weren’t as important as, say, editing and delivering galleries. It has taken me over a year to really define where things had to change going forward to relieve some of the burnout.

This year my kids went back to public school for the first time since Covid. I took on very few coaching clients over the past year. I am still barely on social media or blogging, but my galleries are still getting delivered (which just means the one sharing your pictures for the first time are you!). But I am still in the process of dialing things down for the good of my health and family - and one of those things is weddings.

As of the end of 2024, I will no longer be personally photographing weddings. However, BSP as a business will still be photographing weddings - it will just be my super awesome associates doing the shooting, while I handle everything else. This was a decision that took me forever to make, and I’m still not 100% certain I will never photograph weddings again. For now, going forward for 2025 and 2026, I am stepping back. I will still do families, engagements and all the other portrait sessions.

A few of the key decision making points were that wedding days are a full, long day away from my family almost every weekend. With my husband’s schedule and kids in school, it means we have very little family time during the week - and with weddings taking up weekends it felt like we didn’t have any family time for the months of April, May, October and September. It may not feel like much, but 4 months out of the year really started stressing our family dynamics.

The other deciding factor was that my associates are amazing. When editing weddings we shoot together, I can’t often tell the difference between their shots and my own, other than knowing where I was standing (or looking at the camera info to see which camera was used). And if they can do things just as good as me (or even better), then why not pass the cost savings on to future wedding clients and have the same quality?

All this to say, it’s been an amazing 16 years or photographing weddings, working with so many wonderful couples, meeting families, and feeling like I was truly included in the day as more than just a vendor. I can’t wait to continue to witness the beauty and love and laughter of weddings - just from this side of the computer.

Much love,
-becca
